positive

” I bought three copies of this title – one for me and one for each of my two sons. There is a huge war on boys in American public schools and popular culture and this book was a gift to show that being a MAN is good, noble, and healthy. I love the tips on what to do in certain situations! The writing style is hugely entertaining, almost in a classic Sherlock Holmes or post-Victorian style which makes the book even more fun. It’s an entertaining read but the lessons are practical, as well. Being a gentleman is good and how to be a gentleman is a fantastic way to live. This book shows how and why ”

negative

December 27, 2012…..1 star

“The person you wish wrote this book is your grandpa, a famous civil rights lawyer who could gut a deer and rebuild an engine. He stormed Normandy Beach, gave you your sip of whiskey and made you feel like a grown man even when you were a punk teenager……. The guy who actually wrote this book might or might not live in Williamsburg, but you would swear he did. He hangs out in coffee shops, carries a man purse, and wears a baby Bjorne in public. He is sweet but completely neutered half-man whose wife makes jokes about him female anatomy. Also, his wife helped him write it…… Bottom line: if you are a gender-neutral guy who lives in Williamsburg you will find this book inoffensive but boring, except when its odd conservatism reminds you of Sunday School (don’t curse, seriously?) ….. But it’s basically a waste of time. What else you should read, I am not sure…… As for all these five star reviews, impossible. Absolutely impossible. I suspect that most of them are fake, written by visitors/fans of the Art of Manliness website. ”

What are my thoughts on the product?

cartoon detective.

So just What are my thoughts on the product?

In all honesty, I just like the product full stop. The reason I do is that my decision is most probably influenced by my age(late 40s) lol. Let’s be clear here, a lot of what is written in this book is firmly “tongue-in-cheek” but in between the silliness, there is some serious lessons to be learnt. I am not quite sure what is going on today with the younger men in our western society but it seems to me that some “silent lessons” discussed in this book, is not taught to our younger men by older male family members, friends or peers today. This can be due to a number of different factors but I would posit that social media and changing family/societal values do have a role in this change. Anyway, long story short, call me old-fashioned or a traditionalist, any publication that discusses and highlights some serious stuff facing men today gets my vote every time !!

  1. Hi Billy,

It is nice that there is still books around teaching young adults on how to behave. I remembered when I used to live in Arizona, we were from Texas, everthing you say to the elders are yes mam or yes sir. I find it to be very polite and respectful. I still love it when I see a man holds a door for me when I go somewhere, I love that! If I am not married… values is something that we need to pass on. I am glad that the book findsa way to make it funny.

Will buy it for my nephews.

    Happy Holidays

    1. Hi Nuttanee, yes it is unusual to see a book like this isn’t it?Yes people will always remember the moral of a story if it is a funny story :))

  2. While they seem to be simple tips they truly help to build character. I completely agree that doing these little things and adding them to your schedule can lead to a more fulfilling life.  And what an incredibly reasonable price for such valuable information. Have you tried learning and implementing some of the advice given in the book?
