The pros and cons of this DVD set

being a DVD, the lessons can be slowed down, sped up and reviewed over and over again to let the training sink in.

drawing on producer David Kahns’ extensive KM history and training, the student is offered a “virtual” alternative of “one on one” training with a master of the art.

I think for the amount of information covered in the box set, this well exceeds excellent value for money. To put this into perspective, from my KM training experience(12 months),just one aspect e.g. chokes is usually covered in the one 1.5 hour session for $15 AUD. From the lessons listed above,I estimate this to be equal to at least 15 hands on sessions which would start at $225 AUD but is offered here for only $99.99 !!

The only con that I can see with this product is that it is only capable of offering a “virtual” experience of the lessons. Speaking from personal experience as a student of my local Krav Maga school, I can honestly say watching DVDs is not as good as experiencing it first hand in a group/class setting. In a live setting you will be exposed to the actual stresses that take place before, during and after a physical confrontation!! I can guarantee that soaking up this live setting will definitely give you a better chance of remembering the lesson than otherwise sitting at home watching it all unfold on a TV screen!!

What are my thoughts on the product?

So just What are my thoughts on the product?

In all honesty, I just like the product full stop. I can honestly say my decision is based on my own personal experience of having trained locally with a Krav Maga school over the last 12 months. The aspects about it that I liked are:

the excellent value for money

the credentials of the producer David Kahn

the realistic simplicity of learning Krav maga and the empowerment that it provides individuals.

Using that experience and looking at the training curriculum here,I can say that I do give this product the thumbs up and would recommend it for beginner to advanced student alike.

  1. I think any type of defense learning is a good thing. The price tag is a bit pricey for just watching the lessons on television however for some I can see where it would be a good choice. Personally I would rather have the full on experience of a regular krav maga class.

    1. Hi Cathy, thanks for your input here, much appreciated!! Yes self defense is just that,a tool to use when you need to.You will definitely get more out of a live class as I discussed in the article as this will simulate better a real life attack and how to get out of it with all of the real life feelings running through you at the same time!!

  2. This is a pretty interesting fighting system. It looks like a bare bones and very direct style with a focus on defensive measures and extricating oneself from disadvantageous positions. I like the aggressiveness with which the instructor approaches the moments. You can clearly see that the message in the training is to move from the mindset of a victim to that of the aggressor and victor as quickly and efficiently as possible. How did you discover this style/product?

    1. Hi Sherman, thanks for your input here.Yes you are correct. The good thing about KM is that it is based on our own natural body reflexes to defend our selves. This can be demonstrated as naturally as someone standing in your face and then trying to push or slap you.Try it and see how fast your hands will come up or you flinch etc.KM does not preach going and looking for the fight but if god forbid you or your family are ever in that situation, the tools learnt from training will undoubtedly help you.Yes one main message in KM is to employ aggression straight away so you don’t become a victim !!
