Hi readers and welcome to another post on my website! I wanted to share with you another aspect of the one true living God’s view towards his most valuable creation, us, mankind!

Known to some, but not all persons, is the undeniable truth that God has stamped his image, nature, law, personality, character, knowledge, morality on each and every person that has ever lived on the face of the earth since mankind was first created by God. (Genesis 1:27)

Or to put that another way is that God created man in his image and likeness.

To a born – again Bible-believing Christian that “theory” is 100% believable and accepted. From personal observation and experience, acceptance of that idea ranges from partially accepted to, the bloke writing this blog is nuts and all Bible-believing Christians are delusional nut jobs! Anyway, the point is, we all have different world views towards the argument I am presenting today.

So in saying all that, I am here today to present an argument for the idea of the image of God on man and in man by showing you how it is revealed over and over again in Holy scripture via the God-breathed, holy spirit inspired work of the Holy Bible!

In this article, I will walk you through this message under the following sections:

God’s stamp on all of us

Seen from creation till now

Gone our own ways

The cost of going it alone

The way home

Conclusion

You are not alone anymore

God’s stamp on all of us

Did you ever wonder why us humans do the following random things:

  • stop to give first aid to a total stranger at an accident scene?
  • our hearts break when we see others in trouble e.g. War, refugees, the homeless, the sick and dying
  • our hearts overflow with love at the first sight of newborn children
  • we give our time or money to causes we think are worthy of that input
  • we love
  • we know the difference between wrong and right and in the majority obey laws
  • we mourn over failed relationships
  • we cry at the death of those dear to us
  • we create amazing art, music, technology
  • we continually develop science and technology
  • we continually strive to learn e.g. education
  • we seek meaning to life through spirituality, religion, etc
  • we value family, community and society, etc and are at times devastated when we don’t have those connections e.g. lost family links(I think there is no arguing here that COVID 19 has proved this with isolation, etc)

We do all of the above because whether we like it or not, good, bad, black, white, rich, poor, french, Russian etc..we are all made in the image of God, or in Latin, the Imago Dei!

This is clearly stated in the Holy Bible in different chapters at e.g.

Genesis 1:26-27

Romans 1:19

James 3:9

1 Corinthians 11:7

Yeah well, so what? What does that mean?…. I hear you ask? Well, let’s break that down even further. Have a look below at the biblical definition of the word image.

– A theological term, applied uniquely to humans, which denotes the symbolical relation between God and humanity. … To say that humans are in the image of God is to recognize the special qualities of human nature which allow God to be made manifest in humans.

So what are some of the qualities of God as described in the Bible? Check out the list below to see a description of the God of the Bible:

fiercely loyal – Deuteronomy 7:9

faithful – 2 Timothy 2:13

loving – 1 John 14:16

compassionate – Exodus 34:5-6

righteous – Psalm 145:17

holy – 1 Peter 1:15-16

just – Isaiah 61:8

merciful – Deuteronomy 4:31

forgiving – Daniel 9:9

creative – Isaiah 45:7-12

intelligence – Proverbs 2:6

powerful – Jeremiah 10:12-13

family loving – Psalm 127:3-5

community-minded – Matthew 22:39

So to add all of this up, if the Bible establishes we are all made in the “Imago Dei” doesn’t that then logically lead one to think if God is our creator as a father is to a biological child, doesn’t that lead to the sound reasoning that the child inherits a lot of the parents’ physical and personality traits as the parent? Or put it this way, how many times from personal experience have you seen or even been that child that inherited a lot of the looks, mannerisms, personality traits of your own parents’?Or have you ever heard the saying “like father, like son”

So is there any other proof that God truly has created us all in His image? And where else can we look to see evidence of Him, his handiwork or qualities? I would suggest looking no further than the world around us. For example :

  • the awesome power of a raging sea
  • to the majesty of the Himalayas
  • to the intricate design of a snowflake as viewed under a microscope
  • the beauty and perfection of a newborn baby
  • the complexity and vastness of the universe
  • the amazing makeup and design of human DNA
  • the intricate design and workings of the human body

and the list goes on and on and on…

Romans 1:20 sums up the “evidence” for God’s qualities succinctly in this verse. I mean, think about this… And I mean stop and really think about this. Do you think the beauty and perfection of a newborn baby and all the other previously mentioned random aspects of the world around us did really arrive at this point from a big bang long ago??

Gone our own ways

Ok, so up to this point we have established the facts of :

God’s stamp on our hearts and discussed the visible evidence of God’s qualities and handiwork as seen in every aspect of the world around us.

So how come only 29% of the population on the earth today are Christians?

**Romans 1:19-23 describes our strong headedness and separation from God**

It is because of the “fall” of man that had taken place long ago as described clearly in the first book of the Bible, Genesis.

According to the Bible in Genesis 3:6-22, sin was introduced into the world and onto mankind via that one act of rebellion by Adam and Eve towards God by disobeying a distinct command(Genesis 2:17) not to eat of the fruit of the tree of life.

The Bible discusses sin and the human heart on multiple occasions. It basically teaches that every human being after the “fall” of Adam and Eve has inherited this “spiritual design flaw” into each and every heart I.e. sin has been passed on spiritually, generation to generation and is alive and well in every human heart thereafter and right up till now in the present day.

God clearly identifies this fact in Genesis 6:5-6 by pointing dead center (no pun intended) at the heart and it’s continual evil intent and thoughts.

The cost of going it alone

So if today’s online statistics(as quoted above) are correct, it suggests that a large proportion of us have gone our own ways. This is in spite of this innate “stamp” that God has placed on all of us as well as hanging up “billboards, highway signs and huge arrows pointing to him” as seen in creation all around us from the past and on into today!

So where has “going it alone” gotten us I.e. mankind today? You don’t have to look far to see the results e.g.

  • War
  • corruption
  • crime
  • murder
  • greed
  • poverty
  • injustice
  • slavery
  • human trafficking

The Apostle Paul describes another list of results in Romans 1:24-32. These seem to be more at the individual level but anyone with a spec of insight can see that the list discussed here clearly can and does leads to “big picture” stuff as listed above!

The way home

Up to this point, we have discussed:

  • us and who we are in the Imago Dei
  • the evidence all around us of the one true and living God who is our true Father and loves us
  • how we have all gone astray(Matthew 9:36)
  • the world around us today

I can truthfully tell you today, that there is another life waiting for you in this life and on into the next, as a free gift from Jesus Christ, the risen Son of the Living God. I personally know this to be true because I have seen and experienced firsthand God’s intervention into my own life and turning it around from a broken and shattered event into a new creation that gets better and better every day.

2 Corinthians 5:17 declares a solid promise to the willing recipient of Christ’s free gift!!

Conclusion

The good news is that the God of the Bible and His Son Jesus Christ are still alive and well and just as keen to find those that are looking for them!!

The Holy Bible is a God-breathed, Holy Spirit inspired love letter to all past and present. The truly great news is that

You have made me realize something that is very essential here which is the fact that God created us in his image, he loves us and also made us in a way that everything on earth has to be in conformity with the world too. I like the way you can explain how God’s law and his love is written in all our hearts. Great stuff to share.

Hello William, it’s really nice to be here and I’m pleased with the knowledge I’ve gotten from this really nice article. People live without the fear of God and that is bad because you tend to do bad things at such times. Living by the law of God will save us all and we will see ourselves being better humans.

The bible is God’s word made manifest and therefore should be committed to the heart of all Christians as we should not just read and digest it but we should also live it. Living the Bible means you commit yourself daily to the words written in it and it becomes your lifestyle. This is how you make the Lord’s law become written in your heart.
